SAE 8620 – BRIGHT BAR Grade Introduction:
SAE 8620 steel Bright bar is a common low nickel-chromium-molybdenum steel. It is a case hardening carburizing alloy steel. This alloy steel is flexible during hardening treatments, thus enabling improvement of case/core properties. It is usually supplied in as rolled condition but can also be supplied in bright bar form.
SAE 8620 – BRIGHT BAR Grade Application:
SAE 8620 steel material is used extensively by all industry sectors for light to medium stressed components and shafts requiring high surface wear resistance with reasonable core strength and impact properties.
The SAE 8620 can be used for several medium-strength applications such as camshafts, fasteners, gears, bearings, bushing, camshafts, differential pinion, guide pins, king pins, piston pins ratchets, chains/chain pins and other applications where it is helpful to have a steel that can be readily machined and carburized to controlled case depths.
